Senate Greenlights Legislation to Make Public Jeffrey Epstein Files

The upper chamber of Congress on Tuesday passed without delay to a measure that will mandate the disclosure of investigative files associated with the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a overwhelming vote in the US House of Representatives and a change of position by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. The White House changed course after an extended period of trying to delay the cross-party initiative involving a controversy that has plagued the president since his return to the White House.

Expedited Approval in Both Chambers

Senators proceeded by unanimous consent, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a recorded vote, accelerating the process. Just before, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a massive majority.

Citizens have endured sufficient delay. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have waited patiently,” Chuck Schumer stated in a floor speech on Tuesday, before asking the chamber to pass it unanimously. “Uncover the facts. Allow openness to prevail.”

Presidential Signature

This legislation next heads to Donald Trump for his approval. Trump stated on Monday that he would sign the measure.

Even though the president has for an extended period rejected the outcry over the official management of the Epstein case as a “Democrat hoax”, he signalled his support for the legislation over the weekend, and announced he would sign the measure if it is presented to him.

Response

Democrats, along with survivors of Epstein and their supporters who were seated in a House gallery, broke into applause after the bill was approved. The sole “no” vote came from a GOP representative, who stated he was concerned the measure would disclose identifying details of people, potential suspects and others involved in the investigation.
